Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart have signed on to star in New Line's languishing comedy project Central Intelligence, which initially had Ed Helms attached to star.

We reported back in March 2010 that shooting was scheduled to start in April of that year with Ed Helms, but Universal had halted production as the actor went on to shoot The Hangover Part II. The project resurfaced in December when Rawson Marshall Thurber came on board to direct, but now it seems that Ed Helms will only serve as an executive producer.

The story centers on a former high school sports star turned accountant (Kevin Hart) who is contacted by a classmate (Dwayne Johnson). While he was described as a loser who was always bullied and humiliated during their school days, the classmate is now a highly-trained contract killer for the CIA. The assassin ropes the accountant in to help him stop a plot to sell classified military secrets.

Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen wrote the original script, which was later rewritten by Sean Anders before Rawson Marshall Thurber took his own pass at the script. Scott Stuber is producing alongside Peter Principato and Paul Young, with production scheduled to begin this spring.

Both Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart teased their team-up on their Twitter and Instagram pages over the weekend.

Dwayne Johnson most recently starred in Hercules, and he will next be seen in Furious 7 and San Andreas next year. Kevin Hart is coming off the comedy hits Ride Along and Think Like a Man Too earlier this year, and he will next be seen in The Wedding Ringer and Get Hard.
