42's Chadwick Boseman has been set to star in Universal Pictures' Untitled James Brown Biopic. We first reported on the project back in October, when Tate Taylor (The Help) signed on to direct.

The project will follow the Godfather of Soul's rise from extreme poverty as a child in North Carolina to becoming one of the most iconic musicians of all time. Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer has been trying to get this James Brown biopic off the ground for more than a decade, with the project now getting the green light after budgetary issues have been worked out. The singer passed away in 2006 from congestive heart failure at 73 years of age.

Jez Butterworth (Fair Game) and John-Henry Butterworth wrote the screenplay, with Brian Grazer producing alongside The Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger and Erica Huggins (Flightplan). No production schedule was given.

Chadwick Boseman will next be seen in Summit Entertainment's Draft Day, alongside Kevin Costner and Jennifer Garner.
