Chips Movie Lands Vincent D'Onofrio as the Villain
Following his critically-acclaimed turn as the nefarious Kingpin in Marvel's Daredevil, Vincent D'Onofrio is in talks to play the main villain in Warner Bros.' CHiPs remake. The actor will join Dax Shepard and Michael Pena, who signed on to play Jon Baker and Frank Poncherello last year. The remake is based on the hit TV series of the same name, which ran for six seasons between 1977 and 1983, starring Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada as Baker and Poncherello.
The remake will center on an exotic car thief ring, with Vincent D'Onofrio set to play the ringleader, who used to be a cop himself. Along with starring as Jon Baker, Dax Shepard is also directing and writing the screenplay, working from an earlier script draft by Paul A. Kaplan and Mark Torgove (The Late Bloomer). No production schedule was given at this time.
Andrew Panay is producing, with Jesse Ehrman and Nik Mavinkurve overseeing the project for Warner Bros. Vincent D'Onofrio is best known for playing Detective Robert Goren on NBC's Law & Order: Criminal Intent for the show's entire 10-season run between 2001 and 2011. Aside from his role in Marvel's Daredevil, the actor most recently starred on the big screen in the action-thriller Run All Night, and he will next be seen in Jurassic World, arriving in theaters June 12.
