Chris Pine is in talks to star in Disney's Coast Guard drama The Finest Hours.

The plot is based on the true story of two oil tankers who were caught in the middle of a vicious Noreaster storm off the coast of New England in 1952. Both ships were split in two, causing the crew members to be hurled into the sea, when the Coast Guard mounted a heroic rescue mission.

Robert Schwentke was originally attached to direct last May, but the script took too long to develop and he left the project when he was offered the Divergent sequel Insurgent. Craig Gillespie (Million Dollar Arm) is now set to direct, from a screenplay by Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson (The Fighter), which is adapted from the non-fiction book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias. No production schedule was given.

Chris Pine most recently starred in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, and he will next be seen in Into the Woods and Horrible Bosses 2.
