Django Unchained star Christoph Waltz is in negotiations to star in The Muppets 2 for Walt Disney Pictures and director James Bobin (The Muppets).

The actor will portray an Interpol agent in the sequel, which will be set in Europe. It is said that this part is one of the few key human roles, aside from a slew of cameos. Other noteworthy non-Muppet roles include a Russian femme fatale and the male lead, whose intentions are always questionable. The Muppets star Jason Segel will not be returning for the follow-up.

James Bobin will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Nick Stoller. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will produce.

We reported in April that this sequel will be an homage to 1981's The Great Muppet Caper, although no plot details have been confirmed yet.
