Christopher Nolan is in negotiations to direct Interstellar, a sci-fi project written by his brother Jonathan Nolan. Steven Spielberg was previously attached to direct, but it is unclear whether he is going to be involved at this point.

The film is based on a scientific theory by Kip S. Thorne, a Caltech physicist and virtuoso on relativity. The story centers on a group of explorers, who travel through a wormhole.

The deal will be set up by Paramount, though both Paramount and Warner Bros. will produce the project with Lynda Obst. Negotiations have been underway for months and are being described as very complex.

Christopher and Jonathan Nolan have worked together on The Dark Knight films as well as 2006's The Prestige.

No production schedule has been released.
