Longtime animation veterans Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly have signed on to make their directorial debuts with Sony Pictures' Angry Birds adaptation.

We reported back in May that The Simpsons writer Jon Vitti has signed on to write the script, based on the wildly popular game from Rovio, where players launch a series of birds at green pigs, in an effort to retreive their precious eggs. No details have been given regarding the story.

John Cohen and Catherine Winder are producing, with David Maisel serving as executive producer. Here's what Rovio CEO Mikael Hed had to say in a brief statement about the directors.

"I'm very excited that Fergal and Clay have joined us, bringing with them their vast expertise."

Clay Kaytis worked as an animator on Wreck-It Ralph and the upcoming Frozen. He also served as animation supervisor on Tangled and Bolt. Fergal Reilly was a storyboard artist on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Hotel Transylvania.
