Actor Ben Whishaw has joined the cast of Cloud Atlas for directors Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski. We reported back in April that Hugo Weaving had joined the cast, and now his deal has been finalized.

The project is based off the David Mitchell novel, which follows six story lines that develop in different time periods. One plot line deals with a 19th Century American notary, another centers on a poor British musician in the 1930s, while another focuses on a California journalist in the 1970s. The other three story lines revolve around a 21st Century publisher, a clone in the near future, and a primitive Hawaiian tribesman.

The cast also includes Tom Hanks and Halle Berry, who also just cemented her deal. The cast members will each play multiple roles in Cloud Atlas.

Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski will direct from their own screenplay. Filming is scheduled to begin this fall.
