Actor Jim Sturgess has been confirmed to star in Cloud Atlas for directors Andy Wachowski, Lana Wachowski, and Tom Tykwer.

No character details were given but, like the rest of the Cloud Atlas' cast, the actor will be portraying multiple roles. Here's what the actor recently had to say about the project, which is based on the novel by David Mitchell.

"It's an amazing book. You really gotta stick with it because when it all starts falling into place it's pretty amazing. [All the actors] play a few characters, it's very clever what [the directors are] gonna try and do. I'm really really really excited about it. I think it's going to be bonkers, it's either going to work or it's not. I'm really excited to see if we can pull it off, because it's ambitious what they want to do. And it's nice, you feel like no one's ever done that in a film before, it's like rep theater on a sort of giant movie scale."

The story follows six separate characters through multiple time frames between the early 19th Century and a post-apocalyptic 21st Century. Andy Wachowski, Lana Wachowski, and Tom Tykwer will all direct from their adapted screenplay. It is believed that Tom Tykwer will direct the period segments of the project while Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski will direct the futuristic portions.

No production date has been set, although it is believed production will begin in the near future, on location in Berlin.
