According to Variety, Colin Firth and Sir Ben Kingsley will star in The Last Legion for Dino De Laurentiis Co., Quinta Communications and Zephyr Films.

The action-adventure pic is set during the fall of the Roman Empire when its last emperor, 12-year-old Romulus Augustus, ruled for one day before being imprisoned on the island of Capri. With the help of teacher Abrosinus (Firth) and legionnaire Aurelius (Kingsley), Augustus escapes to make a last stand for Rome.

Doug Lefler will make his feature-helming bow with the pic. His credits include Universal Home Entertainment's Dragonheart 2: A New Beginning, which was produced by Raffaella De Laurentiis, and directing second unit on Spider-Man and A Simple Plan.

Firth stars in Atom Egoyan's "Where the Truth Lies." That pic will bow in competition.

Kingsley stars in the TriStar Pictures release Oliver Twist and in Paul McGuigan's "Lucky Number Slevin."
