According to Variety, Columbia Pictures has acquired film rights to Avery Corman's latest novel, "A Perfect Divorce," for Irwin Winkler to produce.

Corman -- whose "Kramer vs. Kramer" was turned into Col's 1979 Oscar winner by helmer Robert Benton -- again explores the hidden, corrosive effects of a seemingly amicable divorce on the son of well-meaning parents.

Winkler will produce with Winkler Films execs Rob Cowan and Charles Winkler, but he is not expected to helm Divorce.
