After a lot of speculation about the fate of Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man franchise and if it is being delayed, the studio has officially announced release dates for the next two chapters in this continuing saga. The Sinister Six will arrive first, debuting on November 11, 2016. This will be followed by The Amazing Spider-Man 3 sometime in 2018.

Drew Goddard will write and direct The Sinister Six, pushing the franchise in a new direction after The Amazing Spider-Man 2's release this past summer. It will team-up a number of villains from the Marvel Comics, and expand the story that is already in play.

Said Doug Belgrad, president, Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group,

"With The Sinister Six in the hands of writer-director Drew Goddard, we feel extremely confident placing the film on a prime date in 2016."

The video game Uncharted will take The Amazing Spider-Man 3's old release date of June 6, 2016.
