Synopsis:

Every saga has a beginning, and the blood-soaked birth of cinema's greatest villain cuts a path of gruesome retribution in Hannibal Rising, debuting on DVD on May 29th, 2007 from The Weinstein Company and Genius Products LLC. His legacy of malice is legendary, his list of atrocities too abominable to recount; in the history of film, there are few characters as deliciously evil as the infamous Hannibal Lecter. Voted the greatest cinematic villain of all time by the American Film Institute's "100 Years, 100 Heroes & Villains" survey, Lecter is brought to life by French actor Gaspard Ulliel, who "projects a chilling sense of a young man who has lost his sanity," (Dann Gire, Chicago Reader).

Hannibal Rising - the prequel to the The Silence of the Lambs, in which Anthony Hopkins garnered an Oscar for his unnerving portrayal of the psychopath serial killer - delves into the troubled past that shaped the malevolent Hannibal Lecter. The film marks the first script written by Thomas Harris, the author behind the best-selling book franchise. Satisfying appetites and revenues combined, the film franchise has generated over $400 million in box office revenue and sold over five and one-half million DVD units. The Hannibal Rising DVD is available in its rated theatrical version, as well as an unrated version with material too terrifying to show in theaters.

Featuring a grisly feast of bonus materials, including five deleted scenes, commentary with director Peter Webber and producer Martha DeLaurentiis and the featurettes, Hannibal Lecter: The Origin of Evil and Allan Starski: Designing Horror and Elegance, both versions of the Hannibal Rising DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $29.95.

Synopsis:

In the most chilling chapter in the life of Hannibal Lecter, find the answer to the most elusive question of all - why? Reaching back to explore the origins of Lecter's rage, terror and savagery, the story begins in Eastern Europe at the end of World War II when a young Hannibal watches the violent death of his parents - a horrific moment that changes him forever. Showing a cunning aptitude for science, he hones his skills to exact justice on those that hurt his family, igniting an insatiable lust within a serial killer who was not born, but made.
