With Neighbors a huge hit at the box office, it makes sense that Zac Efron is now being sought for more serious minded projects that don't paint him into a teen heartthrob corner. But how do you feel about him joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe? That's a new rumor circulating this afternoon, which comes from reliable scoop source Latino Review. Though, it is not known which character Marvel wants Zac Efron to embody just yet.

The most logical conclusion is that Zac Efron is being offered the lead in Netflix's Daredevil series. This 13-episode drama will debut on the streaming service in its entirety sometime in 2015, with pre-production already started. Casting announcements are expected soon. Will Zac Efron take on the role of blind Hell's Kitchen lawyer turned vigilante Matt Murdock? It's a very high possibility, especially since the series will be shot like a long movie, and does not require the same time-consuming schedule a regular TV series demands.

Marvel is actively seeking the actor, having given him an unspecified script to read. While his manager was contacted about the story, there was no comment. Daredevil seems like the obvious answer, though Latino Review also speculates that he could be up for the lead in Doctor Strange, which is unlikely because the role calls for a slightly older actor. Its also been rumored that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is going to introduce The Inhumans, but it seems unlikely that he would sign on for a guest starring role on a weekly TV series.

If Zac Efron does join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in some capacity, it would be a homecoming for the High School Musical star, who got his first big break with Disney in 2006.
