With only one new film in wide release this weekend, it's no shock that film came out on top, but a hot horror film made some big waves at the box office as well. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Couples Retreat got off to a great start for the weekend with an estimated $12.3 million Friday box office take.

While last weekend's big winner Zombieland held strong in second place with $4.8 million for the day, the big winner had to be the white-hot horror film Paranormal Activity. The film finished in fourth place with a solid $2.5 million gross from just 159 theaters.

Rounding out the top five were Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs in third place for the day with $3.1 million and the double-feature of Toy Story/Toy Story 2 in 3-D, which picked up $2 million.
