David Kajganich (The Invasion) has signed on to rewrite the script for Universal Pictures' remake Creature from the Black Lagoon. Carl Rinsch (47 Ronin) was previously rumored to direct, although he is not attached to the project.

The original Creature from the Black Lagoon debuted in 1954, and centered on a group of scientists trying to study a pre-historic creature that lives in a remote corner of the Amazon river. The studio has been trying to remake the horror classic since the 1980s.

Gary Ross, who was previously attached to write the script, will now produce alongside Allison Thomas and Strikeforce Entertainment's Eric Newman and Marc Abraham.

David Kajganich has also written the Pet Sematary remake, along with Stephen King adaptations IT and The Stand, which are being developed at Warner Bros.
