The current trend is to call for more prominent female superhero roles in Hollywood blockbusters. The Crow remake is taking that one step further by making it's lead villain a very nasty woman. Andrea Riseborough, best known for her recent appearances in Birdman and Oblivion, has entered talks with Relativity to take on the bad guy character Top Dollar.

The Crow remake is said to be a more accurate adaptation of James O'Barr's original graphic novel. Though, Top Dollar started off as a guy, the baddest of this franchise's bad guys. The story follows Eric Draven, who returns from the grave to avenge his girlfriend after an attack leaves them both dead. The evil responsible is part of a large syndicate that is run by Top Dollar. In the 1994 original starring Brandon Lee, the part was played by Michael Wincott.

Jack Huston is signed onto play hero Eric Draven in The Crow. Corin Hardy, whose first feature film The Hallow has won acclaim, will direct from a screenplay by Claire Wilson. Edward R. Pressman, who produced the original film in the franchise, is back as the producer alongside Kevin Misher, Relativity's CEO Ryan Kavanaugh, and Jeff Waxman. Relativity president Tucker Tooley and Harvey and Bob Weinstein are executive producers. James O'Barr is serving as a consultant and will once again curate the soundtrack, just as he did for the 1994 original.
