Following the addition of Jennifer Connelly last week, Lakeshore Entertainment has brought on Dakota Fanning to star in American Pastoral.

Based on Philip Roth's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, American Pastoral follows Seymour "Swede" Levov (Ewan McGregor), a former high school athletic legend who wound up marrying the girl of his dreams Dawn (Jennifer Connelly) and inheriting his father's successful business. His picture-perfect life is torn apart when his daughter Merry (Dakota Fanning) becomes a revolutionary and commits a deadly act of terrorism during the Vietman War.

Phillip Noyce (The Giver) is directing from an adapted screenplay by John Romano (The Lincoln Lawyer), with Lakeshore's Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi producing.

Here's what Lakeshore president Gary Lucchesi had to say about the casting in a statement.

"The role of Merry is an extremely complex part, and I believe that Dakota Fanning will break our hearts with her performance."

Production is scheduled to begin in Pittsburgh this coming March. Dakota Fanning most recently starred in Night Moves and Very Good Girls, and she will next be seen in The Last of Robin Hood.
