Dave Bautista Confirmed as Drax the Destroyer in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’!

Dave Bautista confirmed to play Drax the Destroyer in Guradians of the Galaxy Actor Dave Bautista (The Man with the Iron Fists) has officially finalized his deal to portray Drax the Destroyer in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, just days after we reported he was the front runner for the role.

Jason Momoa was previously in talks to take on the part, although he reportedly was holding out for a better deal from the studio. Isaiah Mustafa and Brian Patrick were also in contention for the role, although Marvel's top two choices were always Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa.

Chris Pratt is the only other confirmed cast member thus far. He plays Peter Quill, a.k.a. The Star-Lord in this superhero ensemble. Dave Bautista's Drax the Destroyer was born as the human Arthur Phillips, who was given a powerful new body and spirit by Kronos after Arthur's family was murdered by the nefarious Thanos. His powers include super-human strength and the ability to emit energy blasts.

James Gunn is directing from his own screenplay. It isn't known when shooting will begin on this Marvel Phase II sequel. Dave Bautista can next be seen in Vin Diesel's upcoming action sequel Riddick.

Guardians of the Galaxy was released August 1st, 2014.

@Joshua-Hollaway Bautista is way bigger then the rock. Rock has gotten pretty big but never as big as him.

Attracting wwe fans?....That's a bit of a stretch, Marvel doesnt need that... I guess we'll never know..

@thebd No, my mistake. I should have worded that better. I feel like this is more of a $$$ choice for Disney than a quality choice. Bautista is still a very popular wrestler, and people will haul in to see this one just because he's in it. Smart move on Bautista's part & Disney too, but I don't think it was the best option.

@ROFLitschristian are u saying that this is a bad move on Batista's part? like he could get in better movies, but he picked this movie for the money?

@Joshua-Hollaway Because The Rock would be way more expensive than Jason Mamoa. They went the same route they've gone with everyone in the Marvel franchise films so far, picking actors that aren't big names or are at a slow place in their careers so they can get them cheap and turn them into stars.

What's stupid is the idea or excuse that Marvel MUST penny-pinch.

I'm not sure about this. I would of wanted to see Jason Momoa or dwayne johnson cast as the Destroyer instead.

Im very happy for Batista, since following his career in the wwe and b rate movies including the disappointing Man with the iron fists(i dont know what you guys thought of that movie, but really, didnt you think Rza should had just stayed behind the camera), i wish him luck in this role. Get in there Animal!!

Eeeeeehhhhhhh, I'll keep an open mind. I don't have anything against Batista, but this definitely seems more like a $$$ choice than a quality film choice.

@skywise That makes two of Us. He has a strong physical presence. but I'm more worried about the performance as a character. He was in a episode of Smallville, and was terrible in it, with just a few words: "I will kill you Kal-El" or something like that, and it make him seem like a cartoon character.
