Actor Dave Bautista (The Man with the Iron Fists) has officially finalized his deal to portray Drax the Destroyer in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, just days after we reported he was the front runner for the role.

Jason Momoa was previously in talks to take on the part, although he reportedly was holding out for a better deal from the studio. Isaiah Mustafa and Brian Patrick were also in contention for the role, although Marvel's top two choices were always Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa.

Chris Pratt is the only other confirmed cast member thus far. He plays Peter Quill, a.k.a. The Star-Lord in this superhero ensemble. Dave Bautista's Drax the Destroyer was born as the human Arthur Phillips, who was given a powerful new body and spirit by Kronos after Arthur's family was murdered by the nefarious Thanos. His powers include super-human strength and the ability to emit energy blasts.

James Gunn is directing from his own screenplay. It isn't known when shooting will begin on this Marvel Phase II sequel. Dave Bautista can next be seen in Vin Diesel's upcoming action sequel Riddick.
