Harsh Times: According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Ayer, whose 2001 Training Day explored the gritty streets of Los Angeles, is returning to those same streets for a film starring Christian Bale, Eva Longoria and Freddy Rodriguez.

Ayer will direct Harsh Times, a low-budget indie feature that he wrote.

Harsh Times takes place in South Central Los Angeles and is a coming-of-age story about two men in their 20s. Bale and Rodriguez play the friends, with Longoria appearing as Rodriguez's girlfriend. Ayer wrote the script in 1995 and developed it with the Sundance Screenwriters Lab.
