Zero Dark Thirty star Jason Clarke has joined the cast of Fox's upcoming sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, a follow-up to 2011's smash hit Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

No details were given for Jason Clarke's character. The story is set 15 years after Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The plot focuses on a group of scientists struggling to survive in San Francisco, while Caesar (Andy Serkis) tries to maintain control of his ape kingdom. We reported in December that Rise of the Planet of the Apes star James Franco is not appearing in this sequel.

Matt Reeves (Let Me In) is directing from a screenplay by Mark Bomback. Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver are producing. The studio is currently eyeing a spring production start.

Jason Clarke also recently starred in Lawless, and will be seen later this year in The Great Gatsby and White House Down.
