Dennis Haysbert has signed on for a lead role in Legendary Digital Media and Crackle's Dead Rising video game adaptation, along with a cameo in the Universal comedy sequel Ted 2.

Dead Rising is based on the video game of the same name, which is set in an apocalyptic world where zombies continue to rise from the dead, after a government-sanctioned vaccine failed to cure the epidemic. The 90-minute feature will be the first project released through Legendary Digital Media, debuting on Crackle, before moving to SVOD, VOD, DVD TV formats. The game has sold over 6.5 million copies worldwide since its launch in 2006.

Zach Lipovsky (Leprechaun: Origins) signed on to direct in August, working from a screenplay by Tim Carter (Mortal Kombat: Legacy). No production schedule was given.

In Ted 2, Dennis Haysbert will have what is described as "a fun cameo," although no further character details were given. We reported last week, when Morgan Freeman joined the comedy sequel, that the supporting cast will be made up of surprise cameos from A-list celebrities and other pop culture icons. Mark Wahlberg returns as John Bennett, with writer-director Seth MacFarlane voicing the title character. Amanda Seyfried, Jessica Barth, Mila Kunis and Patrick Warburton also star. Production is currently under way in Boston.

Dennis Haysbert most recently starred as Manute in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and he will next be seen in Men, Women & Children and Dear White People.
