After the monstrous box office success of Deadpool earlier this year, Deadpool 2 is certainly happening, with Ryan Reynolds set to return as the Merc With the Mouth along with director Tim Miller and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The post credit scene of Deadpool featured Ryan Reynolds revealing that the iconic comic book character Cable will be featured in the sequel, with the actor teasing possible candidates such as Mel Gibson, Dolph Lundgren and even Keira Knightley for the role. While Cable hasn't been officially cast yet, several actors have expressed interest in the role, and it seems we now have another contender, with WWE Superstar turned actor Adam Copeland a.k.a. Edge throwing his hat in the ring.

Adam Copeland, who mentioned the Cable role on Twitter this weekend, joins Stephen Lang, Dolph Lundgren, and Ron Perlman as actors who have expressed their desire to play Cable in this big screen sequel, but we don't even know for sure if casting has gotten under way for the role. In the comics, Cable is portrayed as a man in his 60s, which may put Adam Copeland at a disadvantage, since he's only 42. But we don't know how closely they'll stick to the character's comic book roots. Still, it's possible that we could hear who's playing Cable sooner rather than later, if another rumor proves to be true.

We reported last month that Ryan Reynolds had closed his deal for the sequel, with production starting as early as this fall. That was never confirmed, and 20th Century Fox has yet to issue an official release date for Deadpool 2. Still, given Deadpool's success, becoming the biggest R-rated movie of all time with $763.1 million, it isn't surprising that 20th Century Fox wants to get Deadpool 2 in production as quickly as possible.

Aside from Cable's inclusion, very little is known about the story for Deadpool 2, but a rumor surfaced in February that the sequel will also introduce Marvel Comics character Dominio as Cable's love interest. But that hasn't been confirmed either. Bella Thorne also recently revealed that she'd like to play Lady Deadpool as well. It's possible that this sequel could tie into another X-Men spinoff, X-Force, which has been in development for the past few years with writer-director Jeff Wadlow. We still don't know when that project is moving forward. The studio is also developing The New Mutants, which has been rumored to feature Deadpool star Brianna Hildenbrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

Adam Copeland is best known for his work in the squared circle as WWE Superstar Edge, but he is also building an acting resume as well. He made his feature film debut in 2000 by playing Lachlan in Highlander: Endgame, and he has also appeared on TV shows such as Mind of Mencia, MADtv, Sanctuary, Clash Time, along with a recurring role on Haven. He most recently appeared on The CW's hit superhero series The Flash as Atom Smasher, and he will next be seen on the big screen in Interrogation. We'll have to wait and see who will land the coveted Cable role in Deadpool 2, so stay tuned.
