Even before Deadpool opened to blockbuster box office success, becoming the highest grossing R-rated movie in cinematic history, the trades reported that 20th Century Fox had green lit the sequel Deadpool 2. Today, during their epic CinemaCon panel, the studio made it official. They confirmed that Deadpool 2 is happening. And they announced that the team is hard at working bringing this unconventional Marvel superhero back to the big screen. And for the first time they announced director Tim Miller would be back. Though they revealed little else.

Shortly after their CinemaCon panel, Fox sent out a PR blast that featured all of their upcoming movies. Except there was no mention of Deadpool 2, or Gambit for that matter. We know that Gambit, which was supposed to be in theaters this October, has been delayed. There was no mention of a new release date for Channing Tatum's X-Men spinoff. Nor was a release date given for Deadpool 2. But 20th Century Fox did make sure to mention an Untitled Fox Marvel movie set for October 6, 2017. This could be either movie. Or it's possible that this date is being reserved for X-Force or The New Mutants, both movies that are on Fox's impending slate.

It was reported earlier this month that Ryan Reynolds had closed his deal for Deadpool 2, though the amount he's getting paid this time around was not disclosed. This earlier report claimed that the sequel would begin shooting this fall. If that's true, then the October 6, 2017 release date could definitely belong to Wade Wilson. Though, none of this was confirmed at CinemaCon.

Deadpool is still playing in select theaters, and will make its way home on May 10. The follow-up was originally announced back in February in the days leading up to Deadpool's initial release in theaters. And it was always known that Ryan Reynolds will return. There are no story details released for Deadpool 2 at this time. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are confirmed to be returning to write the screenplay, which they are working on as we speak.

The Deadpool post-credit scene, which spoofs Ferris Bueller's Day Off, promises that popular X-Force Mutant Cable will be a main character in the sequel. And we've heard that the movie will introduce Domino as his love interest. No additional casting has been announced for Deadpool 2 yet, but with shooting possibly taking place in late 2016,we could hear more very soon.
