Deadpool is shaping up to be one of 2016's first big box office hits, with a report from last month claiming that the unconventional superhero adventure could earn more than $55 million in its opening weekend. With just nine days left until the Merc With the Mouth hits theaters, IMAX has released a new preview where director Tim Miller explains why fans should check out the movie in IMAX theaters when it debuts February 12. If that's not enough for you, we also have another excerpt from the Junkie XL soundtrack that you can listen to.

Based upon Marvel Comics' most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life. Tim Miller reveals in this preview that Deadpool provides a unique contrast to most superhero movies, since this is a very "grounded" hero.

Last week, we reported that 20th Century Fox will promote Deadpool during the Super Bowl, but it isn't known if the studio has any plans to release this footage early or not. For those who will be in the San Francisco area during the big game, 20th Century Fox has lined up a number of different promotional events as well. Star Ryan Reynolds will be running a food truck and handing out the Merc's favorite food, chimichangas on Friday night, and on Saturday night, the studio will take over a local bar near the stadium, which will be renamed Sister Margaret's Bar after the watering hole in the movie.

The 20th Century Fox film will go up against Warner Bros. romantic comedy How to Be Single and Paramount's comedy sequel Zoolander 2. If the early projections for a $55 million opening weekend are accurate, the R-rated Deadpool will have a higher opening weekend than both the original X-Men and X-Men: First Class. We have also reported that Deadpool 2 is reportedly already in the works, so stay tuned for more on the sequel.

Ryan Reynolds stars as the Merc With the Mouth, with a supporting cast that includes Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, Olesia Shewchuk, Style Dayne, Rachel Sheen and Dan Zachary. Tim Miller makes his directorial debut with Deadpool, working from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Deadpool is based on the Marvel comic book series created by Rob Liefeld. Take a look at the new IMAX preview, and then listen to another excerpt from Junkie XL's score.
