This fall, Mark Wahlberg and his Lone Survivor director Peter Berg will team up again to showcase the heroism that was on display during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Back in March, we got the first trailer for this true story adaptation. Today, we have the second trailer, chocked full of even more action and drama, as we get ready for the September 30 release. If that wasn't enough, we also have character posters featuring Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, Gina Rodriguez, Dylan O'Brien and John Malkovich.

On April 20, 2010, the world's largest man-made disaster occurred on the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico. The Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion killed 11 people and injured 17 others, with more than 200 million gallons of oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico for 87 days. The oil spill affected the coastlines of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida, with over 8,000 animals reportedly killed as a result of the spill.

Directed by Peter Berg, this story honors the brave men and women whose heroism would save many on board, and change everyone's lives forever. The screenplay was written by Matthew Michael Carnahan (World War Z) and Matthew Sand (Ninja Assassin) and from a screen story by Matthew Sand. The story is based on the upon the 2010 New York Times article Deepwater Horizon's Final Hours by David Barstow, David Rohde and Stephanie Saul. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing for di Bonaventura Pictures.

Lionsgate has set a September 30 release date for the Deepwater Horizon movie, which is shaping up to be quite the competitive weekend. Five movies are set to open in wide release that weekend, with Deepwater Horizon going up against 20th Century Fox's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Relativity Media's Masterminds, STX Entertainment's The Edge of Seventeen and High Top Releasing's Incarnate. We'll have to wait and see if Deepwater Horizon has what it takes to rise above its competitors in late September.

Mark Wahlberg most recently starred in Daddy's Home alongside Will Ferrell, and it was announced last month that he'll return for Daddy's Home 2. The actor will next be seen in Patriots Day, Mile 22, Partners and the highly-anticipated Transformers: The Last Knight, which recently started production in Cuba, under the direction of Michael Bay.
