Despicable Me 2 Confirmed for International IMAX Release
IMAX Corporation, alongside Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment, which are both divisions of Comcast Corp., today announced that Despicable Me 2, the highly anticipated 3D-CG feature follow-up to the 2010 hit, will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX 3D format and released in select IMAX theaters internationally beginning on June 20.
Universal and Illumination's worldwide blockbuster Despicable Me entertained audiences around the globe, grossing more than $543 million and becoming the 10th highest-grossing animated motion picture in U.S. history. In summer 2013, get ready for more Minion madness in Despicable Me 2.
Christopher Meledandri and his acclaimed filmmaking team create an all-new comedy adventure featuring the return of (former?) super-villain Gru (Steve Carell), his adorable girls, the unpredictably hilarious Minions...and a host of new and outrageously funny characters.
Here's what IMAX president Greg Foster had to say in a statement.
"After the successful release of Dr. Seuss' the Lorax, we're looking forward to partnering again with Christopher Meledandri, his talented team and our friends at Universal to offer international IMAX fans an opportunity to experience this highly-anticipated follow up to Despicable Me in immersive IMAX 3D."
Universal Pictures International's President of Distribution Duncan Clark also released the following statement.
"Despicable Me 2 in IMAX 3D marks the latest release in what has grown to become an astonishingly successful partnership with IMAX. We look forward to bringing international audiences a new, fully-immersive adventure as we share this memorable moviegoing experience alongside them."
The IMAX release of Despicable Me 2 will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX 3D Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
