Kyle Ward, the writer behind the upcoming videogame adaptation sequel Hitman 2, has been hired to write a big screen version of Capcom's very popular Devil May Cry series.

The film is being produced through Sony's Screen Gems division. The story of the game revolves around a white haired young man named Dante who must avenge his mother's murder by slaying demons.

The game was originally developed as a third chapter in the Resident Evil series, but when the storyline started to veer in a decidedly off direction, Capcom released it as its own franchise. The game has sold more than 10 million units to date.

Sony's Screen Gems has been quite successful in turning Resident Evil into a continuing movie franchise, and they hope to do the same with Devil May Cry. There are currently five games in Capcom's Devil May Cry series.
