‘Devil May Cry’ Heads to Sony's Screen Gems

Devil May Cry heads to Sony's Screen GemsKyle Ward, the writer behind the upcoming videogame adaptation sequel Hitman 2, has been hired to write a big screen version of Capcom's very popular Devil May Cry series.

The film is being produced through Sony's Screen Gems division. The story of the game revolves around a white haired young man named Dante who must avenge his mother's murder by slaying demons.

The game was originally developed as a third chapter in the Resident Evil series, but when the storyline started to veer in a decidedly off direction, Capcom released it as its own franchise. The game has sold more than 10 million units to date.

Sony's Screen Gems has been quite successful in turning Resident Evil into a continuing movie franchise, and they hope to do the same with Devil May Cry. There are currently five games in Capcom's Devil May Cry series.

Devil May Cry comes to theaters in 2016.

Resident Evil was released March 15th, 2002.

@Bawnian:I agree.Look at what they did to resident evil, street fighter, mortal kombat.Need I go on?No there should be a line drawn.Games like this, god of war, gears of war, halo and bioshock should be left alone. But I dont see that happening.

This is severely depressing to me.This is gonna be completely butchered.

Okay lets just cut out the middle man and have someone play the first game as it's being filmed. So that way no one is disappointed.

The names below are Ryuhei Kitamura and Yuji Shimomura. The accented "u" threw off the html.

Screen Gems! Listen up and listen up good! Give this project to either 1- Yûji Shimomura (who directed the cut scenes in DMC 3 and 4) or 2- Ryûhei Kitamura (who directed the cut scenes in the remake of Metal Gear Solid for the Gamecube). Ryûhei Kitamura also directed the cult film "Ultimate Versus" to name just one of his many films and Yûji Shimomura directed the film "Death Trance" plus doing the action direction on some of the wildest films ("Ultimate Versus"; "Returner") and cut scenes (Bayonetta; DMC 3&4) ever made. Do you see how my fire-breathing fists are telling you the right way of the Warlock?!!

@dan1 I don 't have high hopes for this, but it would have no chance to surprise me if Boll is helming the movie.

I'll blow Hollywood up if Boll is allowed anywhere near this.

@ejk1 Hey, I'm just going by track records. Screen Gems speaks to me like Anderson will get attached, since he's worked for them and butchered the Resident Evil series already. He seems like their first candidate. If he's unavailable, always that dumbass German :P

Watch Uwe Boll or Paul W.S. Anderson get attached to direct. It's all over at that point :P

@themime We're going prequel, huh? Nice, and thanks for the info (I somehow missed it). I agree with you that this should be where the movie franchise begins. Instead of going in game order, chronological order would make more sense.

I have never played Resident Evil and I've enjoyed pretty much all of those films so since I've also never played any of the DMC games I just might enjoy seeing a film of it as well.

Of all....They should stick with the story of the games but change the character's appearance.... Like the new one that was posted in the December issue of "GameInformer" magazine.... those who don't know....you should check it out....those who do, what do you think of that suggestion?
