Director Kenny Ortega has signed onto direct the remake Dirty Dancing for Lionsgate.

Kenny Ortega actually served as the choreographer on the original Dirty Dancing movie in 1987, coming up with the dance moves that helped the movie gross over $200 million worldwide. Kenny Ortega also directed two episodes of the short-lived Dirty Dancing TV series in 1988.

The original Dirty Dancing starred Jennifer Grey as a posh young girl who falls for her dancing instructor (Patrick Swayze) in the Catskills.

No story details were given for this new Dirty Dancing remake, and it is unclear when casting will begin. The project is said to be a high priority for Lionsgate, and it is expected to move forward quickly.
