Just one week after Disney secured Emma Watson to play Belle in their Beauty and the Beast remake, The Tracking Board reports that the studio has offered the Beast role to Ryan Gosling. There is no word on whether or not Ryan Gosling plans to accept the offer at this time. This live action remake of Disney's 1991 animated classic Beauty and the Beast will also be a musical, like its predecessor.

Ryan Gosling does have a history of turning down major studio roles, and he has recently been courted to join Sony Pictures projects such as The Sinister Six and the Ghostbusters reboot. The actor recently made his directorial debut with Lost River, which is set for release this April, and last month, he signed on to star in Paramount's The Big Short alongside Brad Pitt and Christian Bale. It isn't known when production will begin on The Big Short, but Beauty and the Beast will start shooting later this year, so it's possible that there may be a scheduling conflict.

Bill Condon is directing Beauty and the Beast from a script by Stephen Chbosky. Guillermo del Toro, who was once set to direct before dropping out last year, is producing alongside Mandeville Films David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. Ryan Gosling will next be seen in The Nice Guys, alongside Russell Crowe and Kim Basinger, which is set for release next June.
