Just a few days after actor Ian McKellen joined Disney's live action Beauty and the Beast, the remake has added yet another cast member in Gugu Mbatha-Raw. The actress will portray Plumette, who was a feather duster in Disney's original animated classic Beauty and the Beast. The original 1991 movie took in over $375 million worldwide during its theatrical run, and was one of the few animated movies to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw joins a cast that also includes Emma Watson (Belle), Luke Evans (Gaston), Dan Stevens (Beast), Emma Thompson (Mrs. Potts), Josh Gad (Le Fou) and Kevin Kline (Maurice). Production is scheduled to begin later this year, with Disney already setting a March 17, 2017 release date. It isn't known how many major roles are left to be cast in this live action adaptation.

Bill Condon (The Fifth Estate) is directing Beauty and the Beast from a script by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Hercules) and Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower). David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are producing through their Mandeville Films company. Gugu Mbatha-Raw most recently starred in Beyond the Lights and Jupiter Ascending. She will next be seen in The Whole Truth, Concussion and The Free State of Jones.
