MTV recently talked with director D.J. Caruso (currently directing I Am Number Four) about his long gestating project Dead Space.

The film is based on the sci-fi/horror video game from Electronic arts. Caruso talked about translating the video game to the big screen.

"Playing that game was one of the scariest gaming experiences I've had in my entire life," he said in a recent interview with MTV from the I Am Number Four set. "So I think the nuances of that and trying to capture that in the movie [are intriguing]."

The project was on the way to getting made but then things took a different turn for Caruso and his team.

"The cool thing about Dead Space is we've had a few offers to set it up. Once I started [I Am Number Four] and [producer] Wyck Godfrey and all those other guys got really busy on the The Twilight movies because they're kicking butt over there, so we're gonna get back and talk about it [once everyone's time frees up]."

The director even gave off some hints about the way the story might go.

"We've got a really good sort of storyline," he revealed. "It's almost a prequel, sort of, to where the game picks up."

D.J. Caruso then talked about getting the right elements in place to make Dead Space a reality.

"We don't have a writer for it yet, but... right before I left we were listening to different writers and taking different pitches. We have to decide on a couple once we get back what we're going to do," he explained. "We've tried to crack the story a few different ways, so I know when we get back we're going to get into it and I feel like we'll have a screenplay in a few months. It'll hopefully be ready to go."
