When the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII was announced back in late April, fans knew that more announcements would be coming in the future. Several other actors and actresses have been confirmed since then, such as Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie, but today we have a new rumor that Simon Pegg has joined the cast in a secretive role.

IGN Middle East reports that the actor was spotted on the Abu Dhabi set, but no details were given as to whom he might be playing.

Of course, this report contrasts what the actor himself had to say in July, where he revealed that he does not want to be a part of the cast, and that he hopes director J.J. Abrams casts a slew of fresh faces, instead of relying on stunt casting.

"I don't want to be in Star Wars, I think it would spoil it. When I saw Star Wars when I was a kid, I saw a bunch of people I'd never seen before with some lofty, very respectable older actors in senior roles. I would hope J.J. doesn't stunt-cast the film. It would be great to get some new peeps in it, it would be amazing."

It's possible that Simon Pegg could have changed his mind, or that his statement was a ruse, to throw the fans off. After all, he did vehemently deny claims that Benedict Cumberbatch played Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness. He could also be playing a character who is completely unrecognizable through either makeup effects or CGI, but, naturally, that has not been confirmed.

Simon Pegg does have a long history of working with J.J. Abrams, starring in his feature directorial debut Mission: Impossible III as Benji Dunn, before playing Scotty in Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness.
