Director Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead remake was one of the more well received reboots in recent memory, and it did not have fans breaking the Internet, demanding his head. Even though the thriller didn't get a proper sequel due to original star Bruce Campbell and director Sam Raimi taking the franchise to the small screen with Starz' equally well-recieved Ash Vs The Evil Dead, Fede hasn't given up on the horror genre yet. And his next is already being heralded as a modern day classic. Today, we have the first trailer for Don't Breathe, which promises to be one of the most frightening movies of the year.

Don't Breathe arrives from Screen Gems and Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures. It reunites Alvarez with his Evil Dead leading lady Jane Levy, and they appear to have a stellar actor-director chemistry. Also starring in this harrowing ride is Goosebumps star Dylan Minnette and Daniel Zovatto, who you may remember from last year's It Follows. That horror movie was a huge genre sensation in 2015, and Don't Breathe is looking to pick up that mantle this year.

With a story set in the dark and dangerous areas of Detroit, Don't Breathe follows a group of three teenage friends who decided it's a good idea to break into the house of a wealthy blind man. They believe they'll be able to pull off the perfect heist. But they are dead wrong. Avatar's Stephen Lang shows up in a memorable performance as the blind man. The movie was written by Alvarez alongside Rodo Sayagues. Here's the official synopsis from Ghost House Pictures.

"Three teens who get away with perfectly planned home robberies have set their sights on one last payout that will get them out of crime forever. Their target: a reclusive blind man with millions of dollars in hiding. But as soon as they break into his home, the tables are turned and they find themselves trapped and fighting for survival against a psychopath with secrets of his own."

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are the producers on Don't Breathe, lending a guiding hand on set when necessary. They both carried similar roles on Evil Dead. The movie was shot last summer in Budapest and on location in Detroit. The thriller is set for late summer, arriving on August 26. While you anxiously await its debut, you can get a taste of the thrills that await in both the domestic and international trailers.
