According to Variety, DreamWorks has optioned the film rights to Lois Duncan's novel "Hotel for Dogs."

The book concerns a teen who secretly fills a vacant house with stray dogs after she moves in with her fastidious aunt and has to leave her "best friend" (a dachshund) behind.

Marc Haimes will oversee the project at DreamWorks.

Duncan is author of "I Know What You Did Last Summer," the book upon which the Sony teen horror pic was based.
