Actress Lena Headey has joined the cast of Dredd as Madeline Madrigal, a.k.a. Ma-Ma. She joins a cast that already includes Karl Urban as Judge Dredd and Olivia Thirlby as Cassandra Anderson.

The Dredd script, which was written by Alex Garland, describes Ma-Ma as having a scar through her cheek and lip. Madeline Madrigal is also described as being in her late 50s or early 60s, although that age bracket likely changed with Lena Headey's casting. Ma-Ma is the leader of a gang and will be the project's primary villain.

Lena Headey started shooting last week. Pete Travis is directing from a script by Alex Garland, based on characters created by Carlos Ezquerra and John Wagner. No release date for Dredd has been released.
