Drew Struzan Has Been Asked to Do ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Poster Art

Poster artist Drew Struzan has gained a large fan base for his high-quality one-sheet work throughout the years, although he is now technically retired. Today, we have word that the artist has been approached by Walt Disney Pictures to possibly create new poster artwork for Star Wars: Episode VII. Here's what the artist had to say.

"Oh, well, never say never, [laughs] because...in fact, I got a couple calls already this week on Star Wars from Disney. Oh my god, I'm trying to be retired! You know, I spent 35 years painting Star Wars. [laughs] I painted Star Wars before most of you were born! But I guess there is always a chance. There's no intention. But I would love to have a day off every now and again, and I have to work a weekend and all through the night. If the opportunity arises, it will be a real temptation. But it's going to have to be a real temptation to get me away from my wife and my little grandkids and my family. Away from the green trees and the blue skies for a change instead of just locked in the studio. But, you know, never say never. All things are possible."

Along with his work on the previous Star Wars movies, Drew Struzan also created the posters for The Thing, Back to The Future, Raiders of the Lost Ark, the Harry Potter series, and many more. Take a look at his one-sheets for Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. Do you want to see Drew Struzan return from retirement to create new posters for Star Wars: Episode VII?

    This article is FALSE!

I just contacted Drew Struzan through his web site to find out when prints would be available and he responded with the following message: "Well, this certainly goes to support the old saying, 'you can't believe everything you hear'. Just a wicked rumor I am sorry to say. Wishful thinking gone astray. I have not even been approached on the subject by anyone who matters. Yes, many rumors, a lot of hopeful wishing but no contact with J.J., Disney or anyone in power, control or intent."

As much as I hate to say it, I will definitely be there. Probably opening night.

Sweet, the poster might be the only good thing about this movie then; we'll see.

Wait, he didn't do Raiders of the Lost Ark, wasn't it Amsel? I know he has painted a poster for Raiders of the Lost Ark, but the main one that is featured as the poster for Raiders is the one by Amsel. Actually the main two are by Amsel. Drew did do the other Indiana Jones posters though, I'm surprised that isn't mentioned. Plus, he only did posters for the first two Harry Potter films, and they only used the poster he did for the first film and scrapped the second. Just FYI.

This man's art has been the only thing consistently spectacular from the Star Wars film. Hope he comes back!

The man should teach a class to all the people behind the horrible cheap posters in the last 3 years

This is the only man right to do so. He shouldn't even be asked. They should just throw cash his way.
