Untitled Eddie Murphy Comedy: According to Variety, Eddie Murphy is starring in and likely producing an untitled comedy for DreamWorks.

Scribes Josh Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia have been hired to write the pic, in a high six- against low-seven figure deal.

Murphy brought the idea to the studio. It is described as a Western comedy a la Blazing Saddles. That 1974 Mel Brooks film was about a corrupt political boss who hires a black sheriff in order to ruin a Western town, only to watch the sheriff promptly become his worst adversary.

John Fox is overseeing the project at DreamWorks.

Writing team Sternin and Ventimilia wrote DreamWorks' upcoming holiday comedy Surviving Christmas, starring Ben Affleck and Christina Applegate, as well as It's Not You, It's Me, a romantic comedy being developed at Paramount.

Next up for Murphy is Daddy Day Camp, the sequel to Revolution's Daddy Day Care.
