According to Variety, Scott Rudin will produce and Emile Hirsch will star in John Wells Prods. and Killer Films' adaptation of Goat, Brad Land's memoir of fraternity hazing.

Rudin comes aboard the project to produce with Killer's Christine Vachon. Wells will exec produce the pic, which is aiming for a fall start date.

Killer had been developing the script since Vachon nabbed the rights to "Goat" last year. David Gordon Green, who is set to helm, was then brought aboard to pen an adaptation, which caught Rudin's eye.

"When I went after the book, we thought of David immediately," said Vachon. "I think that Scott was also a fan of the book, and a fan of David's. When he saw the script, he knew that David had pulled it off beautifully."

Initially published by Random House and excerpted in GQ magazine, "Goat" chronicles Land's experience as a psychologically shattered 19-year-old struggling to bounce back from a brutal attack.

Hirsch can currently be seen in Lords of Dogtown. Green directed Undertow.
