In 2007, Disney had yet to hit on the gold mine that has become adapting their classic animated feature films for live action. But they did find some success with the live-action fairytale Enchanted, which wasn't based on any preexisting titles, instead spoofing the fantasy princess genre that Disney is so well-known for. The original grossed $340 million at the worldwide box office, and was nominated for a trio of Best Original Song Oscars. Disney started to develop a sequel shortly after the first movie was released, but that has laid dormant for years now. According to Collider, Enchanted 2 is finally moving forward. And it even has a working title.

Getting a sequel off the ground proved to be quite hard for the studio. And there has been minimal, to no movement on the project over the course of the past 8 years. Sources say that is about to change in a major way. And director Anne Fletcher, who has been attached for quite sometime now, is still going to helm the sequel. The script, which was completed sometime ago, is getting a punch up from Disney, and the hope is to have it ready to go very soon. Possibly before the end of the year.

Enchanted 2 is currently titled Disenchanted. But it isn't known if that title will stay in place. Story details are being kept under wraps until further notice. And as of now, it isn't know who may return from the original Enchanted. Amy Adams led a strong ensemble cast that also included Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Idina Menzel, Susan Sarandon and Julie Andrews.

On numerous occasions, Amy Adams has expressed her desire to return in a sequel. The movie helped push her to the next level as a superstar actress. And it worked well as a showcase for her particular talents. She succeeded in bringing the traditionally naive Disney princess stereotype to life with a creeping reality and new found dimensions. She also got to show off her amazing singing voice. News of Enchanted 2 comes just a few months after Disney decided to cancel Tron 3. The studio seems to be having a difficult time deciding which of their own original series they want to take into the future as they continue breaking box office bank with their Marvel Studio movies, and they also have the Star Wars franchise being revived this December with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Some predict this 7th film in the longstanding sci-fi series will become the biggest movie of all time.

Some may frown on the fact that Disney is deciding to move forward with Enchanted 2 while leaving Tron 3 in the dustbin of history. But it should be noted that Disenchanted is more economically viable for the studio. It will be less expensive to produce, and could reap far greater rewards. If anything, the fact that Disenchanted is happening proves that Disney does have some faith in their live-action brand of big screen entertainment away from Pixar, LucasFilm and Marvel. What do you think? Are you excited to see Disenchanted come together after all these years?
