According to Variety, "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria is in final negotiations to play an up-and-coming secret agent in Outlook Pictures and Furthur Films' The Sentinel, starring Michael Douglas, Kiefer Sutherland and Kim Basinger.

The picture, based on the novel by former Secret Service agent Gerald Petievich.

S.W.A.T. helmer Clark Johnson is attached to direct.

Douglas is already attached to play a Secret Service agent enmeshed in a furtive affair with the first lady (Basinger). When another agent is murdered, Douglas becomes a suspect and is caught up in what may be a plot to assassinate the president. Sutherland plays Douglas' protege.

Sentinel will lense in Toronto in May with Furthur's Douglas and Marcy Drogin producing, along with Outlook.

George Nolfi (Ocean's Twelve) penned the screenplay.
