The popular 80s Hasbro cartoon and toy line Jem and the Holograms is experiencing a resurgence, gaining all kinds of new fans as it plays on The Hub in syndication. JEM And The Holograms: The Truly Outrageous Complete Series DVD, which brings all sixty-five episodes together for the first time, is set for release on October 11th from Shout Factory. And Hasbro has announced that they will be bringing Jem and the Holograms to New York Comic-Con 2011 in some capacity.

We recently caught up with voice actress Samantha Newark, who played both Jem and her alter ego Jerrica, on every single episode of the hit animated series. She let us know that Hasbro has a big announcement in store for Jem and the Holograms that will be unveiled during their NYCC presentation.

It has been rumored for a while that Jem and the Holograms will be getting the live action big screen treatment ala Hasbro's Transformers and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. In recent years, Hollywood has discovered that teen girls are an untapped market and that they can bring in box office gold when given the right property. Samantha Newark hinted that if Jem and the Holograms does head to the big screen, it might wind up being an animated film.

It is also possible that, with the recent successful launch of both the new Transformers: Prime and G.I. Joe: Resolute animated series, that Jem and the Holograms will be getting its own weekly run rendered in CG animation.

This is what Samantha Newark had to say about the upcoming announcement from Hasbro.

"I know that Hasbro is revealing something big that has to do with Jem at the New York Comic-Con in a couple of weeks. We are all waiting to see what they have up their sleeve. I am like everybody else. Just waiting to see what happens."

Samantha Newark is optimistic that the announcement will have to do with the physical return of Jem and the Holograms, not just the current and upcoming products that will be on display according to the official Hasbro press release in regards to NYCC 2011. But she has no idea if it is actually the long rumored movie or something else.

"No one has said anything about a live action movie yet, because no one knew what was going on with the franchise for a long time. It has been a big mystery, and it still is. I would hope that they kept some of the same writers on board, just to keep the tone of it. Who knows? I'm not sure what they have planned. I thought it would be cool if they did a really cool animated feature film, so that all of the actors could revive their roles. We're all not 85 years old, and we all still sound good. I think that would be really cool."

If a live action movie is in the works, Samantha Newark hopes that Hasbro will do with her what they did with Peter Cullen in the live action Transformers movie and bring her back for at least a cameo.

"I would love to do a cameo in it. That would be so much fun. The receptionist at Starlight Music. Something cool. I think they are aware of my connection to the fan base. We just have an awesome rapport. I am sure that they are taking note of that. Who knows? Let's just hope they get on board with a reunion that includes all of us. Perhaps a retrospective? Maybe? They should get us all together so that the fans can enjoy it. It would be really cool."

Only time will tell what Hasbro has in store for Jem and the Holograms.
