Oscar winning English actress Dame Helen Mirren is best known for her portrayal of real-life, upper-class, women such as Sofya Tolstoy in The Last Station, Queen Elizabeth I in the HBO mini-series Elizabeth I and of course ... Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen, for which she won her Academy Award. So it only makes sense that when her husband, acclaimed director Taylor Hackford (Ray, Proof of Life), decided to make a film loosely based on the true story of Nevada's first legal brothel entitled, Love Ranch opening in theaters on June 30th, that he would cast his wife, one of the worlds most regal and accomplished actresses, to play the brothel's Madame, right? In another stroke of casting genius, Hackford recruited none other than Oscar winning actor Joe Pesci (Goodfellas, Casino), who came out of his own self-imposed retirement to appear in the film, as Mirren's womanizing, brothel owning husband. We recently had an opportunity to sit down and talk with the film's stars, Helen Mirren and Spanish actor Sergio Peris-Mencheta who plays a boxer that her character falls in love with in the movie, as well as the film's director Taylor Hackford, to find out more about the new movie, the true-life story that it is based on, what it was like for Hackford to direct his wife in this role and how Mirren felt acting opposite the great Joe Pesci. Love Ranch is a bittersweet love story that turns explosive when the players in a romantic triangle lose control and cross the line. Set in the late-1970s, depicting larger than life personalities living on the edge, the film is a fictional story that draws on many truths about Nevada's extremely successful Brothel Industry and stars Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci as Grace and Charlie Bontempo, a husband/wife team who own and run one of Nevada's first legalized brothel ranches. Their lives are irrevocably altered when Armando Bruza (Sergio Peris-Mencheta), a husky, world famous heavy weight boxer from South America, is brought to the Ranch to train as part of Charlie's ever expanding entrepreneurial empire. Plans quickly go awry when Bruza comes between Grace and Charlie as an unforeseen romantic triangle develops that erupts into uncontrollable passion and murder. Love Ranch is a story of raw emotions in a world where boxing and prostitution intersect from critically acclaimed director Taylor Hackford.
