Way back in September of 2010, actor Keanu Reeves joked to MTV that he'd like to get acclaimed documentary and feature film director Werner Herzog behind the lens on the long awaited sequel Bill & Ted 3.

That seems like a long shot, for sure. But more surprising things have happened. And Werner is certainly an interesting choice to take on the further adventures of The Wyld Stallyns, especially now that they will be dealing with a mid-life existential crisis. Themes explored in a great deal of Werner Herzog's best work.

We haven't had a solid update on Bill & Ted 3 since April, when Alex Winter revealed that the script, by original Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure scribes Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, was completed. We chatted with Werner Herzog today in support of his most non-heinous documentary Into the Abyss: A Tale of Death, A Tale of Life, so we decided to see what he had to say about possibly directing Bill & Ted 3. Guess what? If the script is good, he'll do it!

Here is what he had to say about the possibility of directing Bill & Ted 3.

"I have not seen the first and the second (movie). So I do not know for sure. But, if it is a good screenplay, Yes! I am ready for all sorts of wild stuff."

Now, someone just needs to get the script into his hands. He has some free time coming up as he awaits financing on his next project. Bill & Ted 3 directed by Werner Herzog sounds like a masterpiece. Can you think of a better director for this long awaited sequel?
