Way back in February 2014, we reported that director Robert Luketic had come aboard to direct an all-female Expendables spinoff entitled ExpendaBelles, but that was the last we had heard about the project. That report revealed that The Expendables star Sylvester Stallone will produce this action-thriller alongside Kevin King Templeton, but it seems that isn't the case anymore. Sylvester Stallone recently clarified that he has no involvement whatsoever in this project.

The actor reportedly reached out to Deadline to clear up "erroneous reports" that he is involved with the project, telling the site that he isn't participating in the film in any way. While we haven't reported on this project since Robert Luketic took over as director, Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables co-star Randy Couture recently teased in an interview with New York Daily News that this ExpendaBelles movie may move forward ahead of The Expendables 4. Here's what Randy Couture had to say about this female spinoff of The Expendables franchise.

I am hearing Expendabelles talks have been going on for the past two years. I heard they had a script they were adapting for '(The Expendables) 4' and that we were going to start shooting for '4' in the fall. Now I'm hearing it might be pushed back and 'The Expendabelles' might be back on the docket."

The ExpendaBelles follows an elite group of highly trained female mercenaries brought together for a covert hostage rescue mission. Once they are behind enemy lines, the women discover that they will also need to topple an evil dictator bent on world domination. It becomes clear there there is no such thing as the right man for the job. The Expendabelles is the ultimate story of female empowerment and kick-ass teamwork.

A report from October 2013 teased that Meryl Streep, Cameron Diaz and Milla Jovovich will lead the cast, but when Robert Luketic boarded the project in 2014, it was revealed that no cast members had signed on quite yet. We don't even know for sure if Robert Luketic is still attached to the project, since he came aboard two years ago and we haven't heard anything about it until now. We'll be sure to keep you posted with more on ExpendaBelles and Sylvester Stallone's future projects as soon as we have more information.
