Deadline reports that 12-year-old Thomas Horn, who made headlines in October for winning first place on Jeopardy!, will play the lead role in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock have already been cast in Stephen Daldry's upcoming adventure. Horn will play Oskar Schell, a nine-year-old boy who lost his father in the 9/11 attacks, and later finds a key amongst his dad's belongings. The story follows Schell as he tries to find the lock that matches this key.

Director Stephen Daldry was searching for a young boy with exceptional intelligence to play Oskar Schell when he found Thomas Horn, who won $31,800 in prize money during Jeopardy!'s Kid's Week in October.

Stephen Daldry will direct from a screenplay by Eric Roth, which was adapted from Jonathan Safran Foer's novel. No production schedule was revealed for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.
