For those of you out there that might not know, Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin's ninth entry in The Fast and the Furious saga is now filming with Vin Diesel returning as Dominic Toretto. And today we have word via franchise star Vin Diesel himself that The Fate of the Furious stars Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren are set to reprise their respective roles for the upcoming Fast & Furious 9.

The last time we saw Mad Max: Fury Road and Monster star Charlize Theron in The Fast and the Furious was in Law Abiding Citizen and Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray's The Fate of the Furious. Theron starred in that movie as a criminal mastermind and cyberterrorist named Cipher who coerces Diesel's Dom into working against his team by holding his son and his baby mama (Elsa Pataky's Elena Neves) hostage.

Meanwhile, Winchester and The Nutcracker and the Four Realms star Helen Mirren will return as Jason Statham's mother, Magdalene Shaw from Gary Gray's The Fate of the Furious as well. But for all of you Mirren fans that just can't seem to wait until Fast & Furious 9, no worries. You see, the actress is all set to reprise her role of Magdalene Shaw in Deadpool 2 and John Wick director David Leitch's upcoming The Fast and the Furious spin-off movie Hobbs & Shaw starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.

Now I don't know about you, but I'm excited anytime there is casting news regarding either Charlize Theron or Helen Mirren. But to hear that the two are starring in the same movie is almost too good to be true. The fact that the film in question is yet another entry in The Fast and The Furious franchise does little to dampen my enthusiasm.

Hobbs & Shaw is all set to burn up the screen this August while Fast & Furious 9 will be unleashed here in the United States by Universal Pictures on May 22, 2020. On top of Diesel returning as Dominic Toretto along with Helen Mirren as Magdalene Shaw, and Charlize Theron as Cipher, Fast & Furious 9 will star Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz, Jordana Brewster as Mia Toretto, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pierce, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges as Tej Parker, and Nathalie Emmanuel as Ramsey. John Cena, Finn Cole, Anna Sawai, and Vinnie Bennett are also tossed in there somewhere.

Fast & Furious 9 will see The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, and Fast & Furious 6 director Justin Lin returning to the driver's seat. He will be helming this new movie from a screenplay written by Daniel Casey (Kin, The Death of Michael Smith) based on characters created by Gary Scott Thompson. Diesel produces this new adventure along with Michael Fottrell and long-time Fast & Furious screenwriter Chris Morgan. Star Trek Beyond and Sonic the Hedgehog director of photography, Stephen F. Windon will be handling this movie's cinematography while Dylan Highsmith and Kelly Matsumoto will edit it all together. One Race Films and Chris Morgan Productions are the production companies behind this latest movie. This casting confirmation comes to us via Vin Diesel over on Instagram.
