Film's Popularity Touches All The Bases

Nominated for three Academy Awards® including Best Picture, "Field of Dreams" remains one of the most renowned baseball movies of all time. But the film's impact on pop culture extends beyond sport into the very stuff of which dreams are made. A surprise box office hit upon its release in 1989, the film generated numerous fan sites that continue to draw audiences. The farm used as a set for the film has been kept intact and open to tourists, and its 50,000+ annual visitors are a testament to this movie's enduring popularity. Set in the farm country of America's Midwest, a bastion of old fashioned values and the simple life, the film dared audiences to imagine a slice of heaven in the form of a baseball diamond cut from a cornfield. Redefining the word 'whimsical' in the context of cinema -- "Field of Dreams" magically captured a place where anything is possible, made famous by the film's follow-your-dream tagline: "If you build it, they will come." Critics and audiences embraced the film and its message and the film's legacy has continued to grow over time.
