Mandalay Pictures has acquired the movie rights to Sophie Jordan's new novel Firelight, according to Variety. The novel, which will be the first in a three-book series, just hit the shelves on September 7.

The story revolves around twin teenage sisters who are descendants of dragons and one of the sisters has the ability to breathe fire. You can take a look at the trailer for this newly-released book and read a plot description below:

With her rare ability to breathe fire, Jacinda is special even among the draki-the descendants of dragons who can shift between human and dragon forms. But when Jacinda's rebelliousness leads her family to flee into the human world, she struggles to adapt, even as her draki spirit fades. The one thing that revives it is Will, whose family hunts her kind. Jacinda can't resist getting closer to him, even though she knows she's risking not only her life but the draki's most closely guarded secret.

Peter Guber and Cathy Schulman are producing the movie for Mandalay, although there hasn't been a writer and director attached to the project at this time. We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further details on Firelight as soon as we have that information.
