It is somewhat ironic that story details for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales have surfaced now, following yesterday's news that the sequel has been delayed by Disney due to issues with the script. However, sources indicate that many of the plot points revealed below aren't expected to change too drastically, so expect many spoilers and read on at your own risk.

The story behind Pirates of the Caribbean 5 contains a new potential love interest for Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow, a woman of science who has been accused of being a witch. While there will be some sexual chemistry, the attraction is said to be more one-sided than mutual.

The plot does center around witches, although it is believed that if Naomie Harris' Tia Dalma makes an appearance, it will be only as a cameo. There is also a ghost as referenced by the title, a former British soldier who teams up with Barbosa (Geoffrey Rush) on a mission of revenge that is central to the sequel's plot.

There is also said to be a subplot involving a young British couple, both from farming families, although this aspect of the story may be discarded with the new screenplay writes happening right now. The sequel opens at a wedding and climaxes with a riff on the legendary Bermuda Triangle, which may lead us into the sixth film.

Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg are directing from a screenplay by Terry Rossio, which is currently being rewritten by Jeff Nathanson. Despite the delay, production is still expected to take place either this fall or early next year.
